About Optimist's Garage

I bought a 1974 MGB in Teal Blue. Then, a year later, I found a 1977 MGB in Damask Red for sale nearby. Neither is on the road yet. The moment I stopped being frustrated and started being curious — treating the whole thing as a large, three-dimensional puzzle — was the moment the realization hit me: I have the bug.

The Optimist's Garage is where I document my automotive journey — through my newsletter and YouTube channel. I'll share the work that goes right — and what goes wrong.

If you own a classic, are thinking about owning one, or just enjoy watching someone figure things out one bolt at a time — you're in the right place. Fingers crossed.

The Cars in the Garage

The Blue One — 1974 MGB Roadster in Teal Blue

The car that started it all — a '74 waiting for a full restoration from the bones up. The Blue One is a long road ahead. We're looking at a multi-year teardown-to-first-drive project that is sure to be deeply rewarding.

The Red One — 1977 MGB Roadster in Damask Red

The car that proved that I have a problem. A '77 that arrived by tow truck and has been teaching me patience ever since. She's close to being roadworthy — closer every day. The Red One is the near-term story: small wins, ongoing fixes, the satisfaction of a car slowly coming back to life.
